Do You Feel Like Your Furnace or A/C System Doesn’t Blow Enough Air to Keep Your Home Comfortable?
Let us diagnose the problem and we’ll offer you solutions and savings at the same time!
Many homeowners assume that if they aren’t getting enough airflow, they might need to replace their equipment. In some cases, that may be true. However, very often the actual problem is that the existing ductwork in your home is inadequate.
Since your ductwork is inside walls and not easily accessible, you might think this is a problem you’ll just have to live with. Not true! Read on to see what your options are, and how Gravlin A/C & Heating can help!
If your furnace and A/C are NOT in need of replacement….
Just like your doctor takes your blood pressure as a test of your overall well being, a high quality contractor can do a similar test called “Static Pressure” to test your system’s overall performance. Similar to your blood pressure, if the pressure is too low or too high, there is something wrong. Many houses have pressures that are well over 150% of normal. Why is that? Because most of the ductwork that is installed in the average home has many sharp bends in it. Since it’s hard to visualize air flowing through ductwork, think of it like water flowing through a garden hose. There is only so much water that can flow through the hose. Now imagine that hose with a few sharp kinks in it. The water doesn’t flow as freely, does it? The same is true for the air in your ducts.. Change a few of the sharp kinks into smooth bends and the flow gets much better.
The first and biggest kink is usually right above the furnace as it enters the main duct. If the connection has square corners or a square tee connection, the air has trouble going around the bend smoothly. Since that part of the duct is not hidden behind a wall, we can install much better connections right at that point, and improve your airflow significantly.
Another source of restricted airflow is your furnace filter. While it’s important to have a filter, some popular store bought filters slow the air down so much that they can cut your system’s airflow by 50% or more! Good quality air cleaners are not as restrictive when sized and installed properly in a filter rack that holds the filter in place, and allows the air to flow through a larger surface area.

If you’re considering replacing your equipment….
You might think you need a bigger system, but that’s not necessarily true. Using the garden hose analogy again, if you hook that garden hose up to your kitchen faucet and let it run full blast, you’ll get the same amount of water out the other end as if you hooked it up to a fire hydrant. The amount of water flowing is restricted by the size of the hose. So, buying a bigger furnace that can generate more airflow than your existing ducts can handle, is just a waste of money. You will have paid more for the system, but you’ll still have the same airflow problems.
Call Gravlin A/C & Heating because we understand how to improve your airflow! After all, you’re not just paying for equipment, you’re also paying for our knowledge and expertise. Like all other purchases, you’ll get what you pay for!
